He began his academic journey in 1972 at the Moscow Institute of National Economy (TCXA) in the Soviet Union, where he completed his undergraduate studies in 1977. He later returned to the same institution to pursue doctoral studies from 1985 to 1988. Seeking further international academic experience, he studied at the Australian National University (ANU) in Canberra from 1993 to 1995, earning both a Diploma and a Master’s degree.

From 1977 to 2015, he dedicated nearly four decades to teaching at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH). During this time, he also served as the first Dean of the Faculty of Economics from 1988 to 1992, contributing significantly to the faculty’s early development and academic foundation.
