Call for Application: 2019 Summer School on Experimental Economics

 

Introduction

The School of Economics of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) and the International Foundation for Research in Experimental Economics (IFREE) are calling for applications for the 2019 Summer School on Experimental Economics.

This free two-day program is specifically designed for senior undergraduate and graduate students, junior researchers who are interested in human cooperation and society and in the cutting-edge methods being employed by experimental economists to better understand decision-making. The applicant must have a good background in economics, finance or business.

The workshop will be held at the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (the Headquarter 59C Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City) from 12:30 July 22nd to 12:30 July 24th, 2019.

During the workshop, students will participate in different economics games – or experiments – designed to introduce different economic concepts, theory and applications into decision-making behaviors. Topics are including Double Auctions, Posted Offer Markets, Information Aggregation, Public Goods, Cary – Contests, Common Pool Resources, Cognitive Load, Games, Charitable Giving.

To motivate economic decision making, participants are paid in cash based on the outcomes of their decisions. Students have described the cash earnings as “amazing motivators” and that the workshop was a “profitable experience.”

 

Resource persons:

  • Dr. Carry Deck is the Bidgood Chair in Economics and Finance at the University of Alabama, Director of The Interactive Decision Experiment (TIDE) Lab. He also works as Research Professor in the Economic Science Institute at Chapman University, Co-Editor at the Southern Economic Journal, Associate Editor at Journal of Behavioral and Experimental Economics and Associate Editor at The Geneva Risk and Insurance Review.
  • Dr. Jim Murphy is the Rasmuson Chair of Economics at The University of Alaska Anchorage. He is in the Board of Directors of the International Foundation for Research in Experimental Economics. He also contributes in the Editorial Board of the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management and the Strategic Behavior and the Environment,
  • Dr. Kyle Hampton is the Associate Professor in Economics at the University of Alaska Anchorage. He was the Director of the Alaska Center for Economic Education at the University of Alaska Anchorage.
  • Dr. Pham Khanh Nam is the Vice Dean of UEH School of Economics, Director of Economy and Environment Partnership for Southeast Asia (EEPSEA) and Environment for Development (EfD) in Vietnam.

 

Application

Registration is free. The course participation of accepted applicants will be fully sponsored, covering tuition fee and coffee breaks. Limited travel grant will be given to special candidates from distant provinces. Priority will be given to individuals who are in a position to carry out research projects.

Be sure to enroll early as space is limited.

The deadline of registration is June 22nd, 2019.
