Dear professors, lecturers, researchers, colleagues, and students,
You are cordially invited to the next UEH School of Economics STBI (Small Talks Big Ideas) seminar.
The details of the next STBI seminar are as follows:
Topic: A Behavior and Economic Framework to Attack Marine Plastic Pollution
Presenter: Dr. Ho Quoc Thong (Environment for Development – EfD Vietnam)
Time: 11:00 – Wednesday, January 16, 2019
Venue: Room H.001, Campus H, UEH School of Economics, 1A Hoang Dieu, Phu Nhuan District, Ho Chi Minh City
Marine plastic debris pollution is both a global and a local problem with potentially severe consequences for wildlife, economic activity, and human health. The presentation will provide an overview of a framework for designing behavioral and economic tools to reduce marine debris. We also analyze a variety of market-based instruments and behavioral tools attacking the marine plastic pollution. We then use an impact pathway framework to make country-specific recommendations that reflect the reality of solid waste management in each of the countries selected as examples. This framework is also used to propose some further research directions toward the marine plastic debris in Vietnam. These research ideas will also be discussed.
